The Not-So Beachy Experience

On our second day in Mombasa, everything went according to plan. We swam, snorkeled, went to the public beach to mingle with other tourists. No hot guys though, but it was still fun seeing how the locals spend their Sundays in the beach. The public beach sort of reminds me of our local beaches, there are small bars on the side, music blasting and free lance performers. Children all running around or playing on the sand.

Locals on the beach Aww..I really find these kids cute 🙂

Life’s a Beach – Mombasa Trip

I have always been a beach bum and I love to tan; but the problem is, I dont tan that easy. I would turn red first, then burn, would turn a nice golden brown for a couple of days before finally succumbing to the pain of peeling. So when the opportunity to visit a nice beach in Africa came, I grabbed the opportunity without even asking for the proce tag. Bad move. I spent more money on my 3 days stay in Mombasa than my 6 days stay in Seoul. I’m not kidding, it is the actually the first time I stayed in a 100+ USD room that I am actually paying, and that resort was not considered very posh.

Anyway, we boarded the early morning flight to Mombasa via Kenya Airways. It was a 45 minute plane ride but holy sh*t, I paid 200 USD roundtrip for it. It is like going from Cebu to Bacolod and yet the plane fare is like you are going to Singapore (not a seat sale from Cebu Pacific). Plane tickets are frighteningly expensive in Africa, maybe Lucio Tan or Gokongwei should consider doing business here.

When we reached Mombasa, everyone was sweating–except me. It felt like home to me. The weather was hot and humid and there are coconut trees all over the place. It felt like I am going to my mom’s hometown and I am a kid all over again 🙂 Continue reading
